Vatnajökull, Iceland - IK Foundation

In September 2022 I accompanied a work team from The IK Foundation as they installed a field station in Vatnajokull National Park, Iceland.

Vatnajökull is Europe’s second largest glacier is rapidly shrinking. Here on the shores of Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, I spent 5 days in the field documenting the work of the IK Foundation as they installed an autonomous research station.

It was a bittersweet moment saying farewell to Solander's Eye Field Station and the unforgettable surroundings of Vatnajökull National Park.
It is now recording and sending out data from its beautiful, isolated site. I hope to be back again someday.

The project was a collaboration between IK Foundation, The University of Iceland and The Embassy of Sweden in Iceland to establish an autonomous research station, The Field Station | Naturae Observatio | Solander’s Eye, on Breiðamerkursandur, more specifically on Jökulnes.
